To commemorate World Oceans Day 2020, the Mirpuri Foundation joined the United Nations World Ocean Day 2020, a virtual event in celebration of this year’s theme: Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean.
The day-long event featured keynote speeches and panels. It started with high-level speakers H.E. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations , H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, President of the General Assembly, and remarks by Cara Delevingne.
Giving an overview of the state of the ocean, highlighting the inter-linkages of the problems we face, as well as opportunities we can harness, were key speakers, including well-known Sylvia Earle.
The Blue Economy and how private sector plays a role in protecting the ocean, the impact of youth participation and communities innovating for a sustainable ocean, were part of the agenda, that also counted with the presence of Ellie Goulding. From the Cousteau family to OceanX, the conference covered projects offering innovative solutions, highlighted developments in the world of science, technology and exploration.
The remarkable virtual event ended with a celebration of the ocean through live performances from musicians around the world.
June 8 is World Oceans Day, the United Nations day for celebrating the role of the oceans in our everyday life and inspiring action to protect the ocean and sustainably use marine resources.
