On World Environment Day, June 5, the Mirpuri Foundation and Hi Fly airline partnered to organize a beach clean-up at Fonte da Telha, in Almada, Portugal, reinforcing their shared commitment to environmental protection and ocean conservation.

The morning event brought together dedicated volunteers from both organizations—Mirpuri Foundation being a long-standing sustainability partner of Hi Fly—who worked side by side to remove litter from the coastline. All collected waste was carefully sorted and disposed of in appropriate recycling containers, ensuring a responsible and sustainable clean-up effort.

The initiative was made possible with the support of the Almada City Council and SMAS de Almada (Municipal Water and Sanitation Services). Volunteers were welcomed at the start of the event by Maria Teodolinda Silveira, Vice-President of the Almada City Council, and Carlos Monteiro, Head of the Communication and Image Division at SMAS de Almada. Both officials expressed heartfelt gratitude for the volunteers’ presence and their active role in protecting the local environment, emphasizing the importance of collective action in preserving the natural beauty of the region.

“Protecting the ocean starts on land,” a core belief of the Mirpuri Foundation, guided the day’s actions. Initiatives like this beach clean-up not only prevent land-based litter—especially plastics—from reaching marine ecosystems, but also help promote sustainable habits and long-term environmental awareness within the community.

This event forms part of the ongoing environmental mission of both the Mirpuri Foundation and Hi Fly, highlighting their commitment to combating pollution, protecting marine life, and fostering a culture of sustainability—one action at a time.
