Mirpuri Foundation patron of Portugal’s National Theatre and Dance Museum

Recognizing the importance of art and culture, the Mirpuri Foundation donated two 20th century paintings to the National Theatre and Dance Museum, in Portugal. The chosen pieces of art belonged to Russian painters Natalia Goncharova and Mikhail Larionov.
Natalia Goncharova became famous in Russia for her Futurist work. She moved to Paris in 1921 where she designed a stage sets of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. She is considered one of the most expensive women artists at auction. Goncharova’s work can be found in several museums or renowned institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art or Guggenheim, in New York.
Mikhail Larionov was an avant-garde Russian painter but also a founding member of two important Russian artistic groups – Jack of Diamonds and Donkey’s Tail. In 1913 he created Rayonism, known as the first near-abstract art in Russia. In 1915 he left Russia and moved to Paris to work on the productions of the Ballets Russes, alongside Natalia Goncharova, to whom he ends up marrying years later.
The National Theatre and Dance Museum is the Portuguese museum and archive of the performing arts. Through its collections, it aims at increasing the understanding of the history and current practice of the performing arts and to preserve, record and research.
The exhibition supported by the Mirpuri Foundation is now open to the public.
