Pedro Carneiro and Emanuel Pimenta, members of the jury for the Mirpuri Foundation’s Dance, Music and Theatre Awards 2018, have taken part in Antena 2’s morning radio show to present the 90.000€ prize aimed at rewarding artistic excellence.
On air, the judges highlighted the importance of paying such tribute to artists in an era where culture, and cultural expression, are facing real struggles. Moreover, they revealed that they will be looking not only for high levels of interpretation, but innovation, as well. Both judges acknowledged what a privilege it was to have such extensive regulation because it offers a wide range of opportunities for performers, composers, directors and even institutions.
This is a unique initiative in the country that is valuing the performing arts in a way that has never been done before.
Applications are open until June 10th and the awards ceremony will take place on November 3rd at the São Carlos Theatre, where will also showcase performances by some of the oldest and most prestigious ballet companies in the world, such as the Vladislav Lantratov and Maria Alexandrova duo from The Bolshoi Theatre, and Nina Ananiashvili from The Georgia Ballet Company.
