The Mirpuri Foundation was part of a workshop on Human Biomonitoring (HBM) at the Auditorium of the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, in Portugal today, joining a host of medics, scientists, and experts at the event, its second annual gathering, dedicated to HBM.
It aims to provide a forum for knowledge exchange by bringing together stakeholders, researchers and regulators to discuss HBM in relation to health, environmental policies and human health risk assessment, and to share advances in the field.
The Mirpuri Foundation has created a scientific poster for the event. It was on display in-between workshop sessions and, along with others, became a talking point.
Speaking before the event, Ana Agostinho, Mirpuri Foundation Head of Public Relations said: “It’s great to be here at this second year of the Human Biomonitoring Workshop. As we all know, human biomonitoring examines populations for their exposure to pollutants from the environment.”
“Medical Research was one of the founding pillars of the Mirpuri Foundation and Dr Luíza Mirpuri is an important voice in the field of the effects of microplastic pollutants on human health.”

Her great passion is to bring healing to people suffering from environmental contamination, raising awareness and finding healthy perceptions of our chemical lives.”
The workshop was divided into four main sessions. Sessions One and Three -dedicated to talks on HBM from the science perspective, and the role of HBM on human health and environment policies respectively. Sessions Two and Four – Open Communication sessions where a variety of experts give their views on a range of relevant topics.
The Portuguese National Hub for Human Biomonitoring is made up of the following institutions: Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT), Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge, I.P. (INSA), Direção-Geral da Saúde (DGS) and Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, I.P. (APA), Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa (FMUL) and Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde Lisboa (ESTeSL) do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa.
